ON THE DAY TREVOR HODGE graduates from college his life is about to take a sudden turn, and it's not toward the big accounting job that he'd lined up. Surprised by a visitor at his college commencement, Trevor learns that his father, who he never knew, has died in an accident. Trevor is drawn by a subconscious and relentless yearning to go to Oklahoma to the funeral. He ultimately decides to stay the summer with his father's family and travel the rodeo circuit, where his father was a local hero. He falls in love with his lost family, with the rural atmosphere of Oklahoma, as well as a pretty half Choctaw barrel racer. But most of all, Trevor faces an awakening he never expected, and one that leaves his family, and the town of Spiro, on the edge of their seats.

When I saw that Ron McGinnes did the cover I knew it would be a good book. Ron is a great photographer and he recommended the book on his web site.. I think it was the best book I have read in a long time. Why : the character Trevor has feelings and Mr. Law brings them out so well.. I like how he takes him into the past he never knew with the letters...Story was so real you felt like you were Trevor and finding out what was hidden all those years. He brings out Jetti from the past and puts him in Trevor.. Not only was it a great story but it brought out the mind and heart of the folks in the west who truly love their heritage of rodeo and cattle. More of the same please. recommend this book for anyone who likes rodeo, good moving story!Product details

Good. Heart warming story about a young man trying to understand a father he never knew, couldn't understand why he was so understanding of his mother actions, or why his grandparents didn't tell him about this great Dad or other family he had.
This book was a complete surprise and I loved it. It was well written and I felt as if I was there.
Great story about how the west has not completely changed-YET. The people and way of life is still alive and well.
TOTALLY CAPTIVATING! "The True Father" is a must read for any avid reader, old and young alike.
A western novel set in the small town of Spiro, Oklahoma and the surrounding area, Author, Steven Anderson Law, does a brilliant job in captivating his readers and quickly drawing them into the trails and triumphs of his main character, Trevor Hodge. From Learning about the death of "Jettie", a bull riding town hero and the father that Trevor never knew, to Bella, the beautiful and talented barrel racer, who has captured Trevor's heart, this novel stirs every emotion deep inside the readers mind. With moments of happiness,sadness,suspense,thrills and more,each page becomes more intense as the author gives detail after detail,drawing the reader deeper in with an anticipation of what the end of the novel holds. Walking in the footsteps of a man he never knew, yet curious to know the mystery of "The True Father" that his mother has kept hid from him, Trevor's determination to discover it all, will keep you, the reader, on edge, and at the end wanting to read more books by this excellent author.
The other reviews really say it all. This was a wonderful story. The characters were so well developed, I even felt that I knew Jettie, the recently deceased "father". The details were so well painted that you feel like you are actually in the story, I smiled and I cried.
I highly recommend this book and this author.
Law has crafted a truly memorable work with THE TRUE FATHER. The characters are well-crafted, including the minor "supporting" characters. As a baby-boomer who grew up going to rodeos in Saint Louis (I saw the Three Stooges, Milbourne Stone , Ken Curtis, etc among others) I really enjoyed the background story of rodeo behind-the-scenes activities. The writing is certainly equal to my other favorite western authors - specifically Elmer Kelton and Don Bendell. I haven't moved ahead to , but I look forward to the sequel either in print or audiobook.
It wasn't a bad book. It just didn't really hold my interest. It was well written, although a little heavy on descriptions. PThis is more for someone interested in ranching and rodeos.
